Unfortunately one month is too short, even 6 months are very little...There have been numerous fantastic, stable, "risk controlled" strategies - run on well funded LIVE accounts - here on MFB just to blow up without any warning after 7-8 months of picture perfect history...

Yes, indeed. Most of the time excellent choice of momentum direction, and even if not, the EA is "wise enough" to make a nice recovery and a gracious exit.But large drawdownds will happen occasionally and anyone following Tomas' strategy should be PREPARED for that. It is true with the added remark that fund managers have a tougher situation to get in and out of positions. It is much easier to move 4-5 lots without moving the market, but it is a different situation with 400-500 lots which has significant effect on the performance they can achieve.

@ForexAssistant SHOW ME THE MONEY!!! Then, and THEN we can talk about mathematical theories...Guess why those people teach the "grid theory" at universities...? Because they have no other way of making a living... Otherwise they would trade their theories with real money sitting on their yachts in the Bahamas. Not fighting for tenure and waiting for promotion or a SALARY RAISE... Come on!

Well said! I am still about to see a profitable Martingale or Grid strategy which has survived a 2-year mark without a major (i.e. tolerable) <25% DD.The 25% DD is the real max. what any investor in his right mind would take without freaking out, as there is absolutely no guarantee that the next basket does not end up in another 25% DD (totaling 50%). If it happened one would have to make 100% profit on the remaining 50% balance (equity) just to break even...@ForexAssistant The coin tossing example was actually a perfect one. I think at least $1000 per 0.01 lot is needed to avoid an emotionally(!) unmanageable situation. Even with this setup one's account may encounter a -30% DD (max. allowed DD on the Master Account is -33%) if I am right. I am sure Tomas will correct me if not.So in case one cannot stand the thought of a possible -30% DD, then even a $1000 per 0.01 lot risk setting is just too high.

Good point! Yes, the chances of crashing a Martingale accountwithin 1 minutes: practically 0%within 5 minutes: again close to zerowithin 1 day: very unlikely, but definitely higher than within 5 minutes...within 1 week: about 0.1%within 1 month: maybe 1%within 6 months: approx. 20% within 1 year: let's say 60%And so on... The bottom line is that as time goes by, the chances of crashing an account without stop loss (i.e. which is in "eternal DD") are getting higher and higher, so at one point the "eternal dradown" has to meet the Margin Call, the same as parallels meet ...

@ForexAssistant You may be right, Bob. And I do hope that those 7 million people trust their monies on your "in eternal DD" strategy producing 12% per year on balance, as long as the equity is not eaten up by the DD. Which CAN happen theoretically, can't it?And then, all the years' of 12% per year profits evaporate - almost literally - preceded by a Margin Call from the broker. Of course, unless you feed the beast in the DD instead of taking money from it.I wonder if anybody else in this blog is sold on this idea, or is it only me who cannot see the great opportunity in it...

@ForexAssistant Well, Bob, I have to admit, it is too "high" for me to comprehend, especially this sentence: 'it is always in draw down, that is how it works'.Wow...! Why have I never thought of becoming a successful trader with a strategy which produces constant profits while it is in eternal DD....??

I would add the following to the above strategy description:Monthly Profit: 0.93%Max. DD: 9.46% -- In other words it takes 10 (i.e. TEN) months (statistically) to recover from a max. DD scenario (like the current one).Also, it might be also interesting that the named strategy is in constant DD since the end of January, including open positions since January 8th, 2014. Although not pretty, I guess these details add some more valuable information.
