Dollar Mixed after Central Banks Raise Rates; USD/JPY Plummets
The US Dollar finished mostly lower against its Rivals after central banks raised interest rates. The Federal Reserve hiked its Fed Funds Rate to 5% from 4.75%. In a move to calm markets, Fed Chair Jerome Powell said that ongoing rate increases would no longer be necessary.

Yesterday, it seemed to me that Jerome Powell may have been inspired by the well-known verse “a spoonful of sugar helps the medicine go down.” He and his FOMC colleagues provided markets with a few dovish hints while also delivering a potentially painful 25bp rate hike.

March flash PMIs in the Spotlight
Asian markets fell on renewed banking sector concerns. UK data showed improved consumer confidence and retail sales. Preliminary flash PMIs in UK, Eurozone and US will be watched for signs of growth. BoE raised interest rates by 25bp to 4.25% but signaled the possibility of further hikes. Sterling fluctuated and euro fell against the dollar.
