Is compounding necessary?

@myfxpt I agree. In any case, this question can be only answered once you're profitable, and since most traders aren't, they never get to it.

Does it really matter? I use Facebook only for friends so I don't see any reason for a broker to have a Facebook page. I would rather prefer they invest their time in customer suport.@TheLastBear reading through your posts, you're definitely a representative of a broker. Am I correct to assume that?

@Michigander everyone has their own preference. I do agree that risk of ruin is an important factor in determining the risk of a system and therefore helping you to decide how much should you compound. I think any system which needs at least 100 trades to be ruined, can be safely compounded.
Do you think you can turn $200 into $400 in six weeks?

I also think that its not a question of is it possible, but a question of who is going for it - successful traders with large amount of money in their accounts don't look for such returns simply because of the risk associated - I think the less experienced trader you are, the higher target of return you'll see for your self; as time goes by and you understand trading (and risk) better, so does this 'target' goes down.

You can't guarantee 2% per day, but you can definitely have such an average longterm, along with compounding.

Yeah, its happening all across the markets. I think its a combination of the world economy and the year coming to an end.

@Geereg Yes, trading gold or silver is totally different animal - its really confusing as you need to adjust for the different volatility with different lot sizes and sl/tp levels, which is very confusing if you're trading many instruments. Also, the addition of non currency instruments to forex offers are rather new (only a few years old I believe) which is also why these instruments are not being traded a lot, however that trend may be changing.

Thanks for the suggestion - I don't trade any fundamental data and your timeframe is quite long-term for me 😄 It is possible the pair is going up long-term, but I think we can still profit going short, short-term.

I have thought exactly the same thing 😄I've even read articles about it, however it doesn't work - statistically such a trading system will have a win ratio of 50% - since you start with negative odds as you have spreads, that will end up as a losing system.

I think that over 90% of traders don't touch anything other than the majors on a constant basis, and the extra instruments are just to give an edge over a competing broker who doesn't have such instruments. In any case, it's a win-win situation for the traders.

@fughe Demo accounts are not always worthless - it depends if a trading strategy is used or one is always betting the farm. If the first, then you should get almost identical trading results (assuming of course you're taking the same risks).I agree that going for huge returns definitely adds unnecessary stress to your trading.

@myfxpt Problem is you're chasing your return as you need to double your money before you take out profit - if you have a big loser before your withdrawal, it will obviously hurt you a lot more than if you were not to compound at 100% - this is simply a question of when will a losing streak will happen; if you were to know that you would also know when to compound at 100% and when at 0%.What about risk of ruin? I just look at it to see if I'm doing fine - are you using it differently?

We were both wrong 😕I think we definitely have a downtrend forming - I'm counting on a retrace back to @1.30 level to go short.
