I can say that 5% per month is okay and good if it can be achieved long term without high drawdowns. Yes, choosing the correct broker is the most important thing to be successful in forex.I have seen some good brokers for last 10 to 12 years in the field of forex surviving till now. Last time our algo entered into the loosing cycle at an absolute Gain of around 10 M%. It stayed in the loosing cycle almost for 1 to 2 years. But even though the loss percent was not that much, but our absolute gain dropped from 10M% to nearly 5M%.However , currently we are quite confident that the algo will continue to perform well most of the days and weeks and if our current rate of profits remain the same, then probably we may reach that level of 10M% within next few weeks or months.
