Is compounding necessary?
in
New Traders
Oct 22, 2012 at 10:22
That's right your risk stays the same if your compound rate stays the same. But, if you want to reduce your risk as you grow your account, you may want to compound at a rate of 50% for example. What you're saying is fine for something like a term deposit where there is no risk, but with FOREX (as risky as it can be) it's wise to reduce risk.

Personally I think compounding is a great idea, but not at a rate of 100%. So if you had an account of say 10k and traded a lot size of 0.1, and built your account up to 20k, to have a compounding effect and reduce risk, rather then increase your lot sizes to 0.2 you could increase them to 0.15 (50% compound rate) So in short, compounding at a rate of less then 100%, in my opinion, is the way to go.

Perhaps that should be reflected on your EA review site? I purchased it because it 'was' at the top or your list. Why don't you use a regular broker so the results are more realistic?

Iilan 1.4 caused what would've been a margin call had it been a live account. Have changed settings today, so it opens trades further apart in case of trending, increased TP and reduced starting lot size from 0.1 down to 0.05 - lets see how it goes now...

And how many accounts did you blow Cyal8loser? Stop pointing the finger at others. What would your stats look like if you hadn't opened new accounts?

I've turned both Megadroid and Pipjet off. They both made small gains, but they'll risk $200 to make $5 (as an example) I think there's much better robots out there - even free ones that are much better.

Cyal8rloser: Those stats don't give the full story - I've become profitable since August but prior to that I almost blew my account twice. It's been a struggle to get to where I am now - but I leave those stats out there for everyone to see and to remind myself what can happen if I get greedy.
Use of martingale strategy

All strategies have the potential to blow your account.I personally use a form of martingale strategy on eToro - but I don't trade blindly, I only enter when price action and indicators favour it. I use 25 pip S.L. and 15 pip TP, if that trade looses (when conditions are met) I'll open another trade with twice the lot size but I'll use a slightly tighter TP. That way with each successive losing trade I'm increasing the probability of my TP being hit but accepting a smaller profit. If my first trade is a winner then great, I've made my profit goal and the next day I'll r...

"What amount of capitol do you need to trade full time?"That would vary a huuuuuuuge amount on the individual.Lets take myself as an example:I'm making on average 0.75% profit per day, 5 days a week.If I had a trading account of $50,000 that would amount to $375 a day - which is more then enough for me to live on.But that might not be enough for a lot people. Also, I would want to grow my account - so I would only withdraw say $1000 per week, that way I can grow my account by $875 per week. Therefore I can gradually increase the amount of cash I withdraw each week whilst still gro...

I totally agree - that's what I love about FOREX too. And yeah 2-3% daily is huge and takes an enormous amount of risk which in my opinion is just not sustainable. And I think you hit the nail on the head - finding a (profitable) trading system that's suits your nature is the key. No point following someone elses system if you're unhappy doing it.

Definitely: Using high leverage (1:400+) and yes the risk would be high, but I would say that high risk is acceptable with such small starting funds. I would trade just one volatile pair with a low spread and aim for 3-4% per day. 2% a month on $200 isn't worth the trouble apart from gaining experience - 2% a month on $500,000... now you're talking :) The question really is - what do you want to achieve? Do you want to trade FX on the side for fun and excitement? Then yeah, use $200 on ultra high leverage and risk per trade. Or, do you want to get serious and aim to make a living from ...
