TSX Ends Shortened Session On Firm Note

(RTTNews) - The Canadian market ended the shortened trading session on Tuesday modestly higher thanks to gains in energy and technology sectors. The volume of business remained rather thin as investors refrained from making significant moves ahead of Christmas and Boxing Day holidays.

The Canadian market will resume trading on Friday (December 27).

The benchmark S&P/TSX Composite Index closed up 97.84 points or 0.4% at 24,846.82.

Technology stock BlackBerry (BB.TO) gained more than 4%. Bitfarms (BITF.TO) climbed 6.1%. Converge Technology Solutions (CTS.TO) gained 2.85%, while Shopify Inc (SHOP.TO), Docebo Inc (DCBO.TO) and Descartes Systems Group (DSG.TO) closed higher by 1.1 to 1.6%.

Energy stocks Vermilion Energy (VET.TO), Athabasca Oil Corp (ATH.TO), Veren Inc (VRN.TO), Advantaga Oil & Gas (AAV.TO), Nuvista Energy (NVA.TO), International Petroleum Corp (IPCO.TO) and Meg Energy (MEG.TO) advanced 2 to 3%.

Ats Corp (ATS.TO), up 4.3%, was the top gainer in the industrials section. Tfi International (TFII.TO) and Exchange Income Corp (EIF.TO) climbed 1.8% and 1.6%, respectively. Richelieu Hardware (RCH.TO), Waste Connections (WCN.TO), Cae Inc (CAE.TO) and Badger Infrastructure Solutions (BDGI.TO) gained 1 to 1.3%.
