Hey all,Wow, the title of this thread seems to have changed drastically since I subscribed to it initially. A lot of interesting points made by a lot of knowledgeable people. However, the question being asked cannot be completely covered with one or two factors. I am by no means a pro trader in the sense that I know just about everything, but in my trading career I have learned a lot of valuable (and very costly) lessons from the mistakes I made, and indeed still make today.I started trading in 2010, and through the years I figured out quite a bit of what I personally need to do to avoid my mi...

Now see, at least someone can still be honest and have fun with these demo contests. Good on you man. That's what this is all about, just to have fun and blow off steam. Hang in there bro, keep trying, stay disciplined, never stop learning, and keep having fun.... in time you will get better and have more success. Some people take these contests too serious, complain a lot and forget that MyFXBook run these contests for the sake of having fun and to give brokers a chance to showcase their services, nothing more, nothing serious. So what if the leaders want to go "all-in" and gambl...

Could not have said it better... It always amazes me to see the "all-guns-blazing cowboys" fall like flies on high-volatility events like NFP or FOMC... I just test my own method of trading in these comps, no point trying to compete with the gamblers....

Some interesting views here...I always thought that the primary reason most traders (the 90%) fail is simply due to human emotions like Fear (too scared to enter a trade), Greed (wanting more profit or holding on to losing trades), Doubt (exiting too soon after entering), Anger/Revenge (revenge trading out of anger after losses), hope (holding onto loosing trades hoping the market will turn), incompetence (not knowing what you are doing due to a lack of training and experience).... etc.I am a technical trader, but I do believe that fundamentals play a part in what drives the markets. So it mak...

Do you mean long-term or short-term?I personally think the AUD/USD will see more downside of between 0.70 to 0.71 this year before a larger upside correction will start. Maybe these analysts look at a longer term view - who knows what goes on in their mind. Short-term (very short-term - maybe this month), I won't be surprized if the AUD/USD tests 0.76 again.... All really depends what happens with Greece and data from the US... I'm more of a technical trader, so I'm no expert on fundamentals...

Wow, my friend, the questions you ask are not as simple to explain as it seems. I can probably write pages in this forum about it, but very simply put the maximum lot will vary depending on which instrument (currency pair or stock) you trade. As far as a stop-loss goes, I never trade without both a stop-loss level (the amount of capital you may lose on a trade) and a take-profit (some call it a limit order - which is the target you aim for to close the trade at a profit). Placing your stop-loss at the correct level will protect your account, however, many new traders place a stop-loss at the i...

Hey,Yes you can... click on your MyFXBook Login name at the very top, right-hand side of this page, and then click on "Settings". On the page that opens, you should see the active accounts on your profile. Next to the account you wish to edit, click on the "Edit" button on the right-hand side. On the next page you can edit all the properties of your account. Scroll down to the "Permissions" section and then click on the option button (little dot on the right-hand side) and change the property you wish to either Public or Private...Hope this helps.Cheers!
What is PAM and Money Manager?

Hey,It's basically the same thing. PAM, as far as I know stand for Personal Account Manager. Someone with a PAM or Money Manager Account with a broker will offer his/her services as a trader to other people, trade for them and then take a pre-agreed upon commission from the trading profits. Such an account is normally used as a single account where multiple investors will pay their funds into. The trader then uses this single account to trade with.I don't exactly know what the specific rules and regulations are for managing such an account, but in my personal opinion, it is extremely r...

Hi,I may be wrong about this, but I think what it means is that if you for example open a 0,01 lot (micro-lot) buy order on the EUR/USD, you may add additional micro-lot buy orders on the same instrument (example EUR/USD), as long as you do not exceed a total of 15 lots (you can open 1500 micro-lots 0.01 x100 = 1 lot -> x 15 = 15 lots) in open or pending orders in the same direction (buy orders) on the same instrument (example EUR/USD)Like I said I may be wrong... perhaps someone from FXChoice will be able to explain this better... 😄Good luck trading!
DEMO ACCOUNT vs LIVE ACCOUNT

Hi Kricka...I have very limited experience with EA's. In a way I guess I am really not qualified to comment on the success of EA's. EA's, like manual trading I suppose, can work if you have a very disciplined approach, and like you so wisely said, can work if you implement strict risk & money management rules.I tested an EA written by Jim Dandy (not sure if you are familiar with his work - very clever man and accomplished programmer) over a period of about four months, admittedly I did not use a VPS, so the EA only ran while my PC was on. In South Africa, we unfortunately h...
DEMO ACCOUNT vs LIVE ACCOUNT

I agree with the comments of James Smith and Ben Nathan...I personally stay away from EA's. In the long run markets are dynamic. EA's tend to fall off over time and may cost you your account. Also, people running EA's have to compete with multi-million dollar High Frequency Trading systems operating directly from the broker network systems, which makes thousands of transactions per second... And EA running off a PC cannot compete with the speed of these systems. As far as Demo Accounts vs. Live Accounts are concerned I wish to add my own comments as follows:a) A Demo Account does no...

It's Official! The FXChoice Contest is re-starting from scratch...Check your e-mail for the details. Pay close attention to the Additional Rules at the end of the e-mail. I must admit, after reading the e-mail I have respect for FXChoice and the way they are handling the problems in this contest. Personally I feel that the contest should now be quite interesting, and I feel the best trader will emerge the winner. However, that said, I will be sticking to my original choice of not taking part in this contest because I personally do not wish to forward my details and open an account with FXCh...

What indicator you use for scalping?

I agree with rob559, you can use a momentum indicator such as Stochastic, MACD or RSI. However these indicators (which is completely free) or any commercial indicator, in itself is useless unless you interpret them correctly in accordance with the movement of price action itself.Basically, what I mean is that no technical indicator will help you unless you understand the concept of price action. I would recommend you first learn how to read and interpret the charts in terms of Candlestick Formations, Support and Resistance levels and Fibonacci ratios. Once you understand price action and the s...
