Are you saying that unless you scale down position size to be an exact % of the balance at whatever the balance is, anything other than that is a grid and or martingale?

That is correct. Equity also decreases to the same amount if you close the trade.

1 of 11 charts running is martingale in the account I've on display.I understand grid and doubling/martingale. I was confused with the decreasing equity meaning martingale. A strategy that is tested, say 1.00 lot for 100,000. When it loses it's first trade and goes to 98,000, when it opens it's next trade at 1.00 lot does that mean it fits your 1st definition of martingale? Decreasing equity equalling larger trade size?

DD 42% NFP was quite dull, BOJ wasn't that interesting either.

The first definition is the same for any strategy unless you stop trading once you get 1 wrong?

I thought the topic was martingale and or averaging strategies, as these get lots of negative attention anywhere they are.

Aiming for 0.5% monthly growth it wouldn't be. Need context to say whether it would or not.

That's true sometimes, but if it's used on a trend strategy then it's the opposite, and some pairs will continue in a broad range so that it won't blow up. It is after all a lot sizing strategy. I prefer smaller increments than x2/Martingale.

It entirely depends on the strategy behind it.

Hey Alexis If it's performing as it did the back tests, and as it's avg pips are 15-30 I would go live with it. Of course have your back tests worst DD as a warning and make sure that amount of % in $ isn't damaging to you.

Over 3000 closed trades. It's been a slow few days, DD at 37%, EZE074 has 6 open sells on USDJPY. NFP Should be a blast :)

Martingale doesn't have to grid at a specific space against the price, it can also be used to go in the trend direction, which a 1000 pip move would do it quite nicely.

Hello Kenneth I agree with this topic. Martingale cops the most negativity for people trying to make quick gains use it to advertise rubbish, if any strategy is set up for high gains it is as risky. Increasing lots and averaging in and out is a solid strategy in my view. I haven't coded any myself but use ezefx ea's, they do the above, and so far have been successful. It's all about knowing what will kill the strategy and how likely that is to happen. Do you x2 your position size/Martingale or increase by a different number?

Slow week for the account. +0.43% 36 closed trades DD of 34% Equity is slowly ticking up, but still running aggressive MM so no dramas if it increases. Make money people.

My account is running grid type strategies at 5x the recommended risk and 1 martingale strategy trading with the trend. This account has max DD of 61.42% so far.I would not advise ever to run this setup as standard. It historically will crash since each strategies highest DD in back tests x 5 is beyond the 100% worth of the account. It would be irresponsible of me to say that 61.42% is worth following. Not to mention when the 61.42% is open, no plan other than holding is in place. Anyone that drops 40% in a day should reconsider their approach. Having more $ in an account is definitely a go...
