percent return per month and drawdown per month
in
Suggestion Box
Sep 16, 2009 at 16:50
Not sure if this has been suggested yet: Under systems page, be able to screen or sort by avg % gain per month, and DD per month. When looking at total % return (lets say two systems are up 30%) ... If I click on 1 it might be running for 1 month, and another one for 4 months. %/month is clearly different for both ... it would be good to be able to sorty by % / month.

Its also good to run multiple systems that are non correlated, on multiple currency pairs that are non correlated. This would be the best of all worlds and smooth equity curve ... if one system and one pair isn't doing well the others should make up for it.I'm running 2 systems now on 6 different pairs (so 12 instances). Most are non-correlated. I'll start testing system #3, then run that one also once I see fit ... then move on to system 4. Systems 1 and 2 work well in choppy or slight trend mkts ... systems 3 and 4 work well in trend mkts.Overall it should do well in all mkts...

The trading model prefers choppy mkts with swing ranges up to a few hundred pips. Actually a large directional trend with little or no retrace would be bad. I shut down EA last night because NFP today ... if currencies run 400 to 500 pips in one direction that would be bad ... so better to step aside. I'll get it trading again Sun night.

USD still in a downtrend on daily charts IMO. E/U ran up to Demark weekly hi ... collected lots of shorts. I think they will get squeezed tomorrow after NFP. I just bought some E/U long, tight stop ... will add big if close > 1.445 tomorrow! <img src='http://static.myfxbook.com/images/smiley-twist.png' alt='😇'/>

Trading started June 8, 2009. With the tight summer ranges, this system has not been making much money ... should do much better once ranges start expanding again!

hejhej17: IMO you are trading way too big! Looking at your current positions you are in a -1700 drawdown (more than profits to date). I'd recommend greatly reducing position sizes ... and use hard stops. It is highly probable that you will blow out your act trading like this. I've traded heavy like this and blown out many acts. The 4 hr system you are using is a great system (I use it myself when I trade manually) ... but I start small and add to positions as it goes my way, and use hard stops. You can maintain a small risk, and as the trade moves your way, add to positions, put ...
