China Bank Lending Remains Weak

China's bank lending remained weak in July amid high interest rates, official data revealed on Tuesday. Aggregate financing totalled CNY 18.87 trillion in the January to July period, which was down by CNY 3.22 trillion, the People's Bank of China said. Within this total, yuan-denominated loans to the real economy increased by CNY 12.38 trillion in the first seven months of the year.

German economic sentiment deteriorated in August on ambiguous monetary policy, disappointing data from the US economy and escalating conflicts in the Middle East, survey results from the think tank ZEW showed Tuesday. The ZEW Indicator of Economic Sentiment declined sharply by 22.6 points to 19.2 from 41.8 in July. The last time expectations deteriorated in a similar manner was July 2022.
