Musk To Move SpaceX And X HQs Out Of California Over New Student Trans Law

(RTTNews) - Elon Musk announced he would move the headquarters of both his spacecraft maker SpaceX and social media platform X out of California, and to Texas over a new California law signed by Governor Gavin Newsom related to transgender students.

Newsom's new student transgender law, signed on Monday, bars school districts in that state from requiring parents to be notified of a child's gender identification change. California is said to be the first US state where schools are banned from forcing teachers to notify parents about such changes to their kids.

Responding to the law, Musk, in post on X, said, "This is the final straw. Because of this law and the many others that preceded it, attacking both families and companies, SpaceX will now move its HQ from Hawthorne, California, to Starbase, Texas."

And X HQ will move to Austin, he noted.

Musk further said, "I did make it clear to Governor Newsom about a year ago that laws of this nature would force families and companies to leave California to protect their children."

Musk, who is also the founder and CEO of Tesla Inc., in 2021 had moved the corporate headquarters of the electric vehicle maker to Austin, Texas from Palo Alto, California due to issues with the state's regulations as well as clashes with health officials regarding the opening of the Fremont facility during the pandemic period. The Palo Alto area has been Tesla's base since its founding in 2003.

In 2020, amid the severe spread of Coronavirus, Musk had lashed out at California government officials for forcing to temporarily close down Tesla's main factory, and later had threatened to move the company's headquarters and future programs out of California and to Texas/Nevada. Musk had personally moved to Texas from California in 2020.

In mid-June this year, Tesla's shareholders had approved a resolution to move its state of incorporation to Texas, the base of its largest U.S. factory, from Delaware, following a significantly positive response from Musk's followers in X after the Delaware judge's decision to void his $56 billion pay package.

Responding to the ruling, Musk then had stated, "Never incorporate your company in the state of Delaware. I recommend incorporating in Nevada or Texas if you prefer shareholders to decide matters."
