August 30, 2010 UpdateI just got back from Calgary after a wonderful visit. I would like to post a quick update and then off to bed. Finally, Jasmine has surpassed the 3,500 pips benchmark. As you know, we are only targeting 35% return on investment per annum and any higher return is a bonus. August 18, 2010 UpdateYesterday, Jasmine’s subsystem 8 was in a buy EURUSD trade and this morning it exited the trade with 13 pips profit. It was a good thing as the EURUSD dropped 60 pips. The problem with a lower time frame is that it will not be able to achieve 600 pips take profit. This will result in poor risk to reward ratio. For a profitable trading system, it must meet all criteria else it will not be profitable in the long term. This is why design a profitable trading system is so challenging. You optimize for one variable, you destroy another parameter, you fix that parameter, then something else breaks during the meantime.

August 17, 2010 UpdateJasmine has been extremely profitable for the last three months. I would like to see it breaking the 3,500 pips in the next few days. Currently, Jasmine has accumulated 3,267 pips, and it is only a matter of time before the 3,500 pips milestone is broken. There are some elements of this EA that I like: 1) It uses 90 pips stop-loss and 600 pips take-profit - good risk to reward ratio. The take profit is a bit aggressive. 2) No trailing stop-loss. Good, it is one less variable during optimization; hence, it will help to avoid curve fitting. I am a bit leery on the number of trades: The EA will trade 6-7 times a month on average. If you take 7 trades multiply by 12 months and times 11 years, you will obtain 924 trades. This is a bit low for a proper statistical sample if you were to back test it for 11 years.
