EUR/USD Breakouts

Looks like you have a very sound trading plan with minimal risks.Yes, one is for a sell and one for a buy - each one acts as a sl level for the other.

Very well said Chikot. I would like to add that you should keep in mind that forex is very risky and it may appear easier than it looks - double and triple check that everything goes according to plan before investing big.

But have you tested London breakouts for profitability?

Have you also tried other symbols with this trading technique? I found GBPUSD and USDJPY working also.

I see. What are your usual stop and take profit targets? For example, I've experimented setting the sl at the other side (support or resistance, based opposite of your trade direction) and tp double the range distance, however still haven't found the best setup. Seems like sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Also, I'm thinking maybe averaging in a position, so half a position on a breakout and another half at a retrace to the breakout level - what do you think? (I can provide screen-shots to better explain if that wasn't understood :) )

No matter how much you would like to avoid it, the psychological factor always kicks in when there are big amounts of money involved, so you always worry. Also, having a mindset of "getting rich quick" before the fact may cause additional stress on yourself, so I would treat it as a hobby until I can provide myself I can make money consistently.

Those are quite different than the way I see breakouts. How are you determining the levels? As I normally draw support/resistance trend-lines and then see the levels, while yours seems to be horizontal? Also, I don't enter simply on a breakout, but wait for a retrace after a breakout to enter the original breakout direction - this helps to filter out false breakouts and minimize risk by getting a better entry price.
Is compounding necessary?

As with all other things, you must use compounding when needed and according to your risk preference. As Einstein said: "compound interest is the greatest mathematical discovery of all time".If you have a profitable system and are not in a rush to withdraw your profits, then compounding would definitely speed up your profits, although this isn't a must. Best way is to experience it on your own - try compounding your profits for a month and see the difference.

Exactly. Many traders see only an upside with metals, however they forget it can go down as easily. I would be interested in seeing the reason for devaluation of metals - one reason comes to mind is a strong economy, therefore less are looking for alternative investments (?).

I agree, however even if that happens you can't know how long will it take and when to switch to gold. In the end, no currency is safe, not even gold.

Hi Steve, where have you gone?In any case, the Euro is currently in a tight range, so my bias is short on resistance and buy on support until the range breaks.

I think metals such as gold and silver are a safe haven as those become harder and harder to find, therefore, its price can only go up long term. I'm not sure of which timeframe are you referring to GrenMan, but I don't think it's a viable investment for forex traders as forex for most traders is intraday trading.

How is it possible to lose such amounts? "Most notably, he was worth $3 million and $100 million after the 1907 and 1929 market crashes, respectively. He subsequently lost both fortunes"Maybe he was lucky betting the farm a few times which is how he made (and lost) his fortunes?

You must be a very patient man if you were able to learn for 7 years - that's like getting a phd! Doctor rob559 😀How has it been going for you? Why do you say a "though road"? Have you experienced large losses/setbacks? On the same topic, how much starting capital do you think is required to have in your trading account for full-time trading?

This is one of the fed's ways to stimulate the economy. It should be good for the USD so USDCAD should strengthen once QE3 is applied. Not sure though how strongly it would affect the USD - you will most likely see the effect in a few months time.

Adam, great trading!I've never seen such a tight growth curve with so high returns! The drawdown is really low, but I see the average trade time is less than a minute? Do you think brokers will allow such trading for a long time?

At the end of the day it's just another income generator for the broker. I say that if you wish to use a debit card, get one from your bank. It's easy to fool yourself into believing you're making money when you have a debit card connected to your trading account.
